June 2017: Peru & Bolivia: Inca Celebration Of The Sun Tour
In the Inca tradition, likely starting in 1412, there were 4 great celebrations during the year that the general public could take part in, for each of the solstices and equinoxes. With the arrival of the Spanish in Cusco in 1533 all such celebrations were banned by 1535. However, in 1944 the Inti Raymi, Inca festival of the sun was brought back to life, and is now the biggest traditional Inca celebration in the world.
