The above photo shows that the 1200 ton Stone Of The Pregnant Woman at Baalbek has been fully excavated and plainly shows that it is still attached to the bedrock. It is as if a sudden event, possibly cataclysmic stopped work at Baalbek, possibly 12,000 years ago.
And in this photo we see that the stone next to the Pregnant Woman has been partially excavated in order to estimate its size, now estimated to weigh 1600 tons approximately. Nick and Suzan from our recent tour are shown for sense of scale.
On the other side of the Pregnant Woman the light colour of the stone shows where soil had piled up over the course of a very long time and indicates again that the work done on it is extremely old as the shaping of the stone can clearly be seen at lower left.
And on the other side of the quarry where few visitors go we see a 1000 ton stone successfully freed from the bedrock with Patricia Lehman in the photo for sense of scale.
