Let me, Brien Foerster be your guide to one of the most fascinating, yet not commonly visited ancient megalithic sites in South America, called Samaipata. It is commonly believed that this massive carved red sandstone mountaintop was shaped by a primitive Amazonian tribe, but clearly this is not the case.

What you are looking at above is just a portion of what Samaipata is. In the foreground are walls and other constructions done by the famous Inca, but what is behind is megalithic and very mysterious. If you have seen Machu Pic’chu and or Tiwanaku and Puma Punku, now it is time to explore Samaipata.
Day 1: Witches Market & Travel to Santa Cruz
We fly one hour rom La Paz to the jungle city of Santa Cruz, in eastern Bolivia and stay at a luxury at a luxury 5 star resort.
If time allows, we explore the amazing “Witches Market” in La Paz first.
Day 2: Samaipata
We drive for 3 hours up through lush jungle and clean flowing mountain rivers and waterfalls to the small and charming Spanish colonial town of Samaipata. After this we drive a little further up and explore the megalithic ruins of Samaipata.
Notice the sense of scale in the above photo when you compare the people on the right with the extensive stone cutting and shaping on the left. Whoever did this work put extensive into it, and it was clearly planned before it was executed. Could this be an example of the same Lost Ancient High Technology we find in Cusco Peru, as well as the Sacred Valley and Machu Pic’chu?
We stay the night in the charming small town of Samaipata which has both a colonial and “new age” flair, being home to many artists from around the world. Our hotel is the charming El Pueblito Resort on top of a hill overlooking Samaipata.
